Caederwen
stud was founded in 1999, shortly after I left school. I
had always been inspired by the Welsh ponies and cobs at
an early age. At 8 years old I was very fortunate to
start off as a "stable hand" for David and
Janet brake of the Penycrug stud, also having the
opportunity to show many of their cobs and my love for
the Welsh ponies and cobs has grown from there.
In
1999 we purchased the Welsh cob mare "os
Ceridwen“ (Derwen Royal Express x Cascob Margeret Go
Bang) from Mr Davies of the Tregare stud. Ceri as she is
known needs no introduction to the show ring, she was the
youngstock champion at Glanusk stallion show in 1992 as a
yearling, and has since been a regular winner at many
shows.
Also
in 1999, after a visit to the Welsh cob sales at Builth
Wells, saw the purchase of the Welsh cob stallion
Cathedine Flying Express. Fly as he was known brought
me so much pleasure in and out of the show ring. Himself
a winner of 7 premiums at Lampeter stallion show and
numerous WPCS medals, as well as being a consistent prize
winner at the Royal Welsh show. Fly continued to sire stock of the
highest quality into his twenties, but has now sadly passed away,
but his progeny continue to be successful in a wide variety of
disciplines in the UK and overseas.
In 2005 we purchased the lovely Cascob Jack Flash (
Trevallion Temeraire x Cascob Heledd ) from his breeder
Mrs M Edwards who we bought in to cross on our Express
daughters. He has already proved himself to be an excellent stock
getter and there are a number of foals by him offered for sale this
year.
At
present we keep around 6 broodmares and around 5 young
stock following on behind them. Most will be descendants
of the Parc studs Royal Welsh champions Parc Lady and
Parc Rachel. Our foals are offered for sale both
privately and also annually at the Welsh cob sales in
Builth Wells.
